Volunteers work together to improve the quality of life for low-income homeowners and are the backbone of the organization. Volunteer Opportunities at RTMD:
Scheduled Rebuild Projects:

If you are registering for a specific project, please fill out a volunteer application here. By registering, you are committing to work on that project. The registration process also acts as a waiver of liability. Once you have completed the registration process, all you have to do is show up and have a great time volunteering!

Current volunteer opportunities for individuals:
Volunteer House Captain

The House Captain, in partnership with RTMD staff and the Skilled Captain, is key to the successful completion of the Rebuilding Day project, with a focus on volunteer coordination, communication and support. This position works very closely with RTMD in every aspect of the rebuild day process.

Volunteer Skilled Captain

The Skilled Captain, in partnership with RTMD staff and the House Captain, is key to the successful completion of the Rebuilding Day project, with a focus on the planning and execution of technical aspects of the work scope, including materials and supplies. This position works very closely with RTMD in every aspect of the rebuild day process.

Volunteer Skilled Advisor

The Skilled Advisor, in partnership with RTMD staff, the Skilled Captain, and the House Captain, helps ensure that a Rebuilding Day runs smoothly by providing extra support and instruction to supplement Skilled Captain responsibilities and by serving as an extra set of skilled hands on site.

Volunteer Home previewer

A Volunteer Home Previewer works with the RTMD staff to conduct the initial inspection of a home.  A Volunteer Home Previewer must attend a training course provided by RTMD and will be given a home preview sheet to work off of.  Basic knowledge of construction and home repair issues is beneficial but not required for this position.

Administrative and Client Support Volunteer:

The Administrative and Client Support Volunteer assists with the daily responsibilities of RTMD staff and the tracking and organization of client requests.  They address case management, and the preliminary steps for starting a project file, as well as providing office support for staff and other volunteers. Regular office duties include answering phone calls from prospective homeowners, returning voice messages, and entering client data.

Volunteer Homeowner Liaison

The Homeowner Liaison obtains our homeowners’ stories and helps our preview team understand some of the special needs and potential concerns that can influence the way RTMD assesses homes and makes decisions about delivering repair services and safety upgrades. Help RTMD create an interesting and accurate biography of our homeowners, so we can share their story with our sponsors and volunteers. Provide occasional assistance on project days by influencing the quality of the final project through relationship-building with our homeowners.

Volunteer Outreach Assistant – Remote Position

The Volunteer Outreach Assistant performs various methods of outreach in order to recruit potential sponsors and volunteers, secure donations, and to spread awareness of RTMD’s mission.  Regular responsibilities include research of potential partners, giving presentations, and occasionally attending outreach events with RTMD staff and other volunteers.

Warehouse Support Volunteer

The Warehouse Support Volunteer is primarily responsible for the organization of the RTMD warehouse, ensuring that all donations and supplies coming into and going out of the warehouse are being inventoried. They may often help with the gathering of tools and supplies for Rebuilding Days.
