AURORA, Colo. — A foreclosed home in Aurora has been refurbished and turned into a family’s dream home.Laura Pretty, a Colorado native, had been living in El Paso, Texas, with her family, but wanted to move back to her home state.

It will be a very special holiday for one Aurora family who moved into their first home last weekend. Laura Pretty, Sergio Duran and their two children are thrilled to be the new owners of a home donated to Rebuilding Together Metro Denver (RTMD) by Wells Fargo.

Rebuilding Together Metro Denver helps area seniors and disabled
Dozens of volunteers with Rebuilding Together Metro Denver (RTMD) joined millions nationwide over the weekend for Make A Difference Day 2011. RTMD volunteers like Brian Dale (pictured), from Citibank, worked in yards, painted rooms, put in new carpets, fixed electrical problems and installed grab bars, all to make homes safer and healthier.

One of the leading causes of death and injury in the home is unsafe or unhealthy living conditions, and an organization in Denver is trying to change that one neighborhood at a time.
“This is a blessing to have a new water tank. Now all of us are going to be able to take a shower almost all at the same time,” says Lorraine River.

Rebuilding Together to fix up houses in Denver’s Barnum area
The Denver affiliate of Rebuilding Together plans to rehabilitate about 40 homes in the Barnum neighborhood to coincide with a national housing conference in June.
Kathryn Arbour, CEO of Rebuilding Together Metro Denver, said the work is expected to include about 40 percent of the homes on South Hazel Court between West Third and Bayaud avenues.

Gift of Independence Project Helps Older Adults
Mary and Robert Larez raised five children in the Denver home they have owned since 1967. But time and a tight economy have taken their toll on the house, and health issues and injuries have resulted in a loss of mobility for Mary, 77, and Robert, 81.
